Development: a pedagogical strategy for the formation of values in students of the Dentistry career is presented, which consists of five stages and actions in each of them, which is conceived in two dimensions; The first is the teaching, in which, on the basis of the logic and components of the educational teaching process, a hierarchical treatment of values is suggested, on the basis of which is the systematization of the value invariants and, on this, the proposes to address the rest of the values of the social assignment; The second dimension is the extra-teaching dimension, in which the modes of action of the values to be formed in the social activity of the students can be valued in greater richness. Conclusions: the fact is revealed and argued that responsibility, solidarity and industriousness make up a dialectical triad, which on the axiological level becomes the driving source of the value formation process, while dignity constitutes the cell of said process. Its rapid clinical diagnosis is of vital importance since it will involve the compromise of several important systems. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about anaphylactic shock and its dental management by 4th and 5th year students of the Universidad Abierta Interamericana, School of Dentistry. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a 15-question survey. First, 4th year students were surveyed before they began the Clinical and Integrated Surgery of Adults and Geriatrics II course and then, 5th year students were surveyed during the break from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology course. Results: The average general knowledge of 4th and 5th year students is low since error rates are greater than 50%. As for the first-choice medication, a high rate of incorrect answers was observed, since they did not know which one it was, but they did know the correct route of administration. As for knowledge of the university protocols, the results were poor. Conclusions: most students are unaware of the existence of the university protocols for acting in cases of emergency, although on the other hand, in general, they are aware of the existence of the first aid kit to deal with emergencies. A Case Report Abstract: Introduction: Traumatic injuries are a common cause of pulp canal obliteration (PCO), frequently affecting the maxillary central incisors. PCO presents significant challenges for root canal treatment due to procedural complexities and risks of iatrogenic errors. The PriciGuide® system, offers an innovative solution for guided endodontics, enhancing precision, visibility, and efficiency. Case Report: A 26-year-old male presented with a discoloured upper front tooth, tender on percussion and non-responsive to cold tests. Radiographic evaluation revealed a widened periodontal ligament (PDL) space, and the tooth was diagnosed with PCO and symptomatic apical periodontitis. The patient opted for root canal treatment using the PriciGuide® system. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and a diagnostic impression were used to create a customized guide. The PriciGuide® system facilitated precise access cavity preparation, and the root canal was instrumented with Hyflex CM files and irrigated with sodium hypochlorite with Twin Kleen enhanced by passive ultrasonic activation. The tooth was obturated with gutta-percha and restored with an all-ceramic crown. At a one-year follow-up, the tooth remained asymptomatic both clinically and radiographically. Conclusion: The PriciGuide® system effectively addressed the challenges of root canal treatment in a tooth with PCO, ensuring precise access, preservation of tooth structure, and optimal treatment outcomes. This case highlights the system's potential to advance guided endodontics and improve clinical success rates in complex cases Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 207-207 Volume: 3 Year: 2025 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto2025207 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2025v3a4 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Christopher Turner Author-Name-First: Christopher Author-Name-Last: Turner Title: Diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease: some perspectives in care. A Review Abstract: While the incidence of diabetes mellitus varies between populations and countries type 2 is becoming an increasing burden for health care professionals. First recorded in 1928, people living with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at a 3-4 times higher risk of developing periodontal disease (PD) than non-diabetics; for those who smoke this risk is up to 10 times. However, many doctors are not aware of this. DM and PD are bidirectionally linked, the one affecting the other and vice versa, although the mechanism is not fully understood and may be linked to chronic infection. PD has an adverse effect on glycaemic control. That improves when periodontitis is successfully controlled. Doctors should consider PD when their patients have persistently high glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, and dentists should consider diabetes or pre-diabetes when they have patients with unstable or progessive periodontitis. Wherever possible, for optimum health outcomes doctors and dentists and their teams need to share results and work together. A traffic light system of red, amber and green for both medical and dental risks is proposed, and a pro forma designed, so that diabetics themselves can share their own results with their professional advisors. Dentists need to find ways to teach their medical colleagues about the basics of PD, update their medical records, and understand more about medical risks. More research is required . Although the risk associated with dental radiological examinations is relatively low compared to natural risks, any additional risk, however minimal, is unacceptable if it does not benefit the patient. According to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), dose limits and dose constraints are not recommended for individual patients, as they could compromise diagnostic efficacy, causing more harm than benefit. Therefore, it is crucial that dental radiology services implement radiological protection measures by establishing DRLs, in order to maximize the diagnostic benefits while minimizing the risk to the patient. A methodology for establishing DRLs in dental clinical practice is proposed, including justification of appropriate radiological examination, optimization of radiological protection, and correct use of DRL values. Understanding it is crucial for medical care, especially in settings where medications are administered or procedures are performed that can trigger allergic reactions. Objective: To review the etiological, pathophysiological, clinical, and therapeutic features of anaphylactic shock. Development: The most common causes of anaphylactic shock include allergies to food, insect stings, medications, and latex. Pathophysiologically, it is characterized by massive release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leading to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and bronchoconstriction. Clinically, it presents with symptoms such as urticaria, edema, respiratory distress, and hypotension. Diagnosis is based on clinical history and symptom presentation. Immediate treatment includes the administration of adrenaline, which acts as a vasoconstrictor and bronchodilator, and may be followed by antihistamines and corticosteroids. Conclusions: Anaphylactic shock is a medical emergency that requires immediate recognition and treatment. Education and preparation of medical personnel are essential to ensure an appropriate response to this condition. Early identification of triggers can prevent future episodes and improve patient outcomes. That is, from the first moments in which the human being faces the process of transformation of nature to obtain from it the necessary elements for its subsistence. In order to describe the morphofunctional characteristics of the organ systems that participate in the phonoarticulatory processes for the production and emission of the voice, a review of the literature was carried out, finding a total of 50 articles of which 20 met the validity criteria. The human organism is conceived as a whole, an example of which is the nervous and hormonal regulation of all its functions. Hence, the organs in isolation cannot perform those functions that are inherent to the entire organism. This process uses chemical agents such as hydrogen peroxide, capable of oxidizing chromogens present in tooth enamel, lightening the teeth. However, its continued use can have side effects, including demineralization of the enamel and alterations in the oral microbiota, such as the growth of Candida albicans. Development: Several studies have analyzed the effects of hydrogen peroxide at different concentrations. At high concentrations, such as 35%, its capacity to alter the morphology and mineral content of dental enamel, increasing its roughness and favoring the adhesion of microorganisms has been demonstrated. The formation of biofilms by bacteria and fungi, such as Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, has been the subject of debate, with contradictory results regarding their prevalence on surfaces treated with bleaching agents. This study found that the control group, without peroxide treatment, presented greater adhesion of C. albicans, which could be attributed to an antimicrobial effect of the oxidizing agent. Conclusion: Tooth whitening, although effective as an esthetic procedure, presents clinical challenges due to its potential adverse effects. The findings highlight the need for further research to fully understand the impact of these agents on the oral microbiota and enamel. Future studies should include larger samples and employ advanced techniques to improve the validity of the results and optimize the safety of the procedures. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with the purpose of identifying risk factors associated with premalignant lesions of the oral cavity in patients attended at the Bernardo Posse Polyclinic, Havana, between 2020 and 2024. The analysis included variables such as age, sex, anatomical location of the lesions and risk habits, such as smoking, alcoholism, inadequate diet and predisposing diseases. Early identification of these factors can contribute significantly to the prevention of oral cancer. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 25 patients of both sexes with evident premalignant lesions in the buccomaxillofacial complex. The variables studied included age, sex, anatomical location of the lesions and risk factors (smoking, alcoholism, diet and predisposing diseases). Data were collected through surveys and clinical records, and descriptive statistical analyses were applied to determine the absolute and relative frequencies of the variables. The sample was selected from the oral cancer registry of the Bernardo Posse Polyclinic. Results: The analysis showed that 40% of premalignant lesions were located on the tongue, this being the most affected anatomical site. The age group with the highest prevalence was 35-59 years, with a significant incidence of smoking (50%) and alcohol consumption (50%) as main risk factors. A higher proportion of female patients (56%) compared to male patients (44%) was observed, which differs from global trends in which men tend to be more affected. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of identifying risk factors associated with premalignant lesions in the oral cavity, such as smoking, alcoholism and inadequate dietary habits. The results underline the need to implement educational and prevention programs aimed at at-risk populations, especially in the age groups with the highest incidence, to improve early detection and reduce the prevalence of oral cancer. Descriptive study with cone beams computed tomography Abstract: The present study evaluated dental angulation and vestibular bone table thickness in anterosuperior teeth in order to optimize immediate implant placement. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 30 teeth in 15 patients were analyzed, considering the distance between the amelo-cementary boundary and the bone crest, as well as tooth angulation. The results indicated that bone thickness varies at different heights and that the average angulation is greater in men than in women. However, a clear correlation between bone thickness and dental angulation could not be established due to the sample size. The study highlights the importance of these factors in achieving an esthetic and functional result in implant dentistry, suggesting the need for further research to validate these findings and optimize implantation techniques. This paper reviews the indications and decision making in the management of anterior gingival recessions, a crucial aspect in esthetic and restorative dentistry. Over the years, the evolution of mucogingival surgery towards periodontal plastic surgery has led to the development of various surgical techniques, such as connective tissue grafts and advanced coronal flaps. These techniques aim to provide effective and durable root coverage, adapting to the specific anatomical characteristics of each patient. The selection of the most appropriate surgical technique depends on a detailed evaluation of local anatomical factors and the patient's esthetic expectations. While it is possible to maintain periodontal health with a minimal amount of keratinized gingiva, gingival recessions remain common, especially in individuals with thin periodontal phenotypes. An interdisciplinary approach is essential to ensure outcomes that optimize both periodontal health and esthetics in the long term Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 122-122 Volume: 2 Year: 2024 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto2024122 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2024v2a33 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Ivette Cáceres González Author-Name-First: Ivette Author-Name-Last: Cáceres González Author-Name: Leyda Yenima Pérez Hernández Author-Name-First: Leyda Yenima Author-Name-Last: Pérez Hernández Author-Name: Danisbel Pérez Ayala Author-Name-First: Danisbel Author-Name-Last: Pérez Ayala Author-Name: Dunia Milagros Labrador Falero Author-Name-First: Dunia Milagros Author-Name-Last: Labrador Falero Author-Name: Jadier Wong Silva Author-Name-First: Jadier Author-Name-Last: Wong Silva Title: Periodontal status in people with HIV in the municipality of Pinar del Río Abstract: Introduction: infection by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reduces the functionality of the immune system and favors the appearance of different pathologies, including periodontal disease. Objective: to characterize periodontal disease in people living with HIV. Methods: an analytical observational cross-sectional study was conducted in people living with HIV during the period 2022-2023. Methods: A bibliographic review was conducted using the terms "health system", "dental consultation", "cardiovascular surgery" to search databases. Development: Valve surgery involves a comprehensive patient care process that covers from the request to leaving the surgical center, with the aim of providing information, comfort and safety. This process includes several phases such as surgical indication and presurgical evaluation, whose purpose is to identify risk factors and optimize perioperative care to reduce morbidity and mortality. Conclusions: The oral cavity can contribute to the development of pathologies such as caries and periodontal disease, which are risk factors for cardiovascular conditions. Infective endocarditis (IE), a bacterial infection of the heart valves, may be associated with oral foci in 10-20% of cases. For this reason, organizations such as the American Heart Association recommend dental consultation before valve surgery to minimize risks. Thanks to technological advances, new tools have emerged, such as spectrophotometers, intraoral scanners, among others, which have significantly improved the way of carrying out this process. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of dental color determination with the visual method compared to the spectrophotometer. Methods: A descriptive and documentary study was carried out following a systematic bibliographic search of articles in the last 10 years, which were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The study compared the effectiveness of two methods to determine the color of teeth: visual and instrumental (with a spectrophotometer). The visual method, although traditional, presents high variability due to factors such as lighting, the observer's experience and the individual perception of color. The spectrophotometer offers a more objective and reproducible measurement of color, as it is not influenced by external factors. Although both methods can achieve similar results in some cases, significant differences were generally observed in the selection of the dental shade. The spectrophotometer allows for the detection of more subtle color differences and offers greater consistency in the results. Conclusion: Dental shade measurement is more effective with a spectrophotometer, however, the authors recommend using the two methodologies together. The documentary analysis method was used and a total of 18 bibliographies were reviewed. Current scientific evidence supports the association between periodontal pathogens and the development of periodontitis, demonstrating that bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia and Treponema denticola play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease by triggering inflammatory responses and promoting the destruction of tooth-supporting tissues. In Argentina, where health is recognized by the National Constitution itself as a right, the system is mixed where social security, the offer of public management services, and the private sector coexist) and access to health care is assumed to be guaranteed. For central cardiovascular surgical procedures, consultation with a dentist is mandatory in order to avoid infectious endocarditis, a very common complication. Objective: to evaluate the type of care that patients access when this consultation is indicated from a public hospital that does not have the service in the hospital itself. Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, where 65 medical records of patients who underwent valve replacement surgeries at the El Cruce Hospital in Florencio Varela were evaluated, in the period from January to December 2021. An observational guide was used to collect data. Results: It was determined that 75.5% of the patients treated did not have social security coverage, compared to 24.5% who did have social security or prepaid insurance, and that of the former, 97% accessed the consultation through the public health system, leaving only 3% within the so-called “disadjustment area” where the system does not fulfill its purpose. Conclusions: The Argentine public health system, specifically in health region VI, works correctly. Objective: to argue the importance of making adapted toothbrushes for patients with special needs. Methods: a narrative bibliographic review was carried out through Google Scholar, of scientific articles published in the last ten years, in different digital databases such as: SciELO, Medline, Pubmed, digital libraries, in English and Spanish, using the following descriptors: "disability", "special needs", "oral hygiene", "mechanical and electric toothbrush", "bamboo toothbrush" "partial and/or total assistance". Development: the effectiveness of tooth brushing depends on the type of toothbrush, its use, the method and time of brushing, the use of mouthwash and/or dental floss. Although there are different methods for preventing plaque formation, the use of toothbrushes has proven to be the most effective way. This group includes patients with moderate or severe physical or mental disabilities and with significant motor limitations in the upper limbs. Many of them remain in wheelchairs or are bedridden for a large part of the time, need help to carry out any oral hygiene procedure and in this sense, with rare exceptions, cannot assume any type of responsibility in the process. Conclusions: the dentist must perceive the problem of the particular individual and formulate an individual plan, as well as inform the parents and the patient how to carry out such a program. The objective was to describe the temporomandibular joint from the embryological, histological and morphofunctional point of view, taking into account the importance of this knowledge for dentists. A bibliographic review was carried out taking into account the most up-to-date scientific literature on the subject. 15 bibliographies were used. Documentary analysis, analytical-synthetic and historical-logical analysis methods were used for the development of the research. The study of the embryology, histology, anatomy and physiology of the temporomandibular joint reveals its complexity and vital importance in oral and general health; in addition, it allows us to understand its biomechanics and the distribution of forces during mastication. A comprehensive understanding of this joint is of great importance for dentists, as it will allow the timely detection and treatment of temporomandibular disorders that negatively influence the quality of life of patients. Oral cancer, included within malignant neoplasms, was characterized by an abnormal growth of cells that affected the oral cavity and sometimes spread to other parts of the body through metastasis. The disease mainly affected men over 50 years of age, although an increase in cases linked to the human papillomavirus (HPV) was observed in younger people. The geographical distribution of oral cancer in Argentina revealed significant inequalities. Northern provinces, with lower levels of socioeconomic development and limited access to health services, had higher rates compared to metropolitan regions. Risk factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and poor diets contributed to this disparity. Although prevention and education campaigns were intensified, their reach was insufficient in some rural and peripheral areas. The impact of oral cancer was not only limited to physical health, but also affected patients' quality of life, imposing a considerable emotional and economic burden. The public health system faced difficulties in providing advanced treatments due to lack of resources and unequal access. However, government efforts to strengthen primary care, train professionals and promote HPV vaccination as a key preventive measure were highlighted. Despite the challenges, prevention and early diagnosis were identified as essential strategies to reduce the burden of oral cancer and improve health outcomes in the country Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 55-55 Volume: 2 Year: 2024 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto202455 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2024v2a47 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Youris Samón Mayán Author-Name-First: Youris Author-Name-Last: Samón Mayán Author-Name: Ana Rodríguez Yanes Author-Name-First: Ana Author-Name-Last: Rodríguez Yanes Author-Name: Arlin Castro Diaz Author-Name-First: Arlin Author-Name-Last: Castro Diaz Title: Temporomandibular Disorders and Climacteric Disorders in Argentina: Advances and Challenges for Comprehensive Care Abstract: In 2024, the Stomatognathic System (ES) and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) acquired a particular relevance in Argentina due to the demographic, economic and health changes affecting its constantly changing population. The aging population structure and the increase in life expectancy generated direct implications in the prevalence and management of TMDs, especially in women during climacteric and menopause. The socioeconomic context presented contrasts, with growing access to health services thanks to public policies focused on primary health care, although inequalities persisted between urban and rural areas. These inequalities affected the quality of the specialized treatments needed for TMDs, aggravating the situation of vulnerable women due to economic barriers and lack of information. During the climacteric period, hormonal changes had a negative impact on oral and maxillofacial health, exacerbating TMDs, which are more prevalent in women than in men, with a ratio of three to one. Factors such as emotional stress and psychological disorders, intensified by inflation and economic uncertainty, played a crucial role in the etiology of TMDs. The importance of preventive strategies, such as educational campaigns and professional training to identify and treat TMDs early was highlighted. However, the limitations of the public health system and the high costs of specialized treatments restricted their scope. Despite advances in academic training and interdisciplinary approach, the need for more comprehensive public policies that prioritize women's health became evident. Argentina faced the challenge of consolidating an equitable model that would guarantee access to effective treatments, allowing women in climacteric conditions to live with dignity and wellbeing Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 54-54 Volume: 2 Year: 2024 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto202454 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2024v2a48 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Luis Miguel Quintana Sánchez Author-Name-First: Luis Miguel Author-Name-Last: Quintana Sánchez Author-Name: Yivelin Fernández Queija Author-Name-First: Yivelin Author-Name-Last: Fernández Queija Author-Name: Lourdes Hernández Cuétara Author-Name-First: Lourdes Author-Name-Last: Hernández Cuétara Title: Risk factors and preventive strategies in oral cancer: a comprehensive review Abstract: Introduction: Oral cancer was identified as a global health problem due to its high morbidity and mortality. This malignant neoplasm, originating in the oral mucosa, affected structures such as the lips, tongue and hard palate, with squamous cell carcinoma being the most prevalent, representing 90% of the cases. The main risk factors included tobacco and alcohol consumption, with a synergistic effect that facilitated carcinogenesis. Other elements, such as diets low in fruits and vegetables, exposure to radiation, immunosuppression and unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, also contributed significantly. Early detection of premalignant lesions, such as leukoplakias and erythroplasias, was crucial to prevent progression to advanced malignant stages. Development: The study highlighted that tobacco consumption generated thermal, chemical and systemic damage to the oral mucosa, while alcohol promoted desiccation and immunodeficiency, increasing the risk of oral cancer. In addition, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables offered a protective effect, while excessive consumption of red meat and spicy foods increased exposure to carcinogens. Factors such as the use of ill-fitting dentures, viral infections, especially HPV, and prolonged radiation were relevant. Diagnosis by TNM classification allowed determining prognosis and directing effective treatments. Conclusions: The article concluded that oral cancer control required a comprehensive approach based on prevention, education, early diagnosis and timely treatment. The active participation of stomatologists in early detection and education of the population was essential. The importance of implementing educational programs and strengthening primary care to reduce risk factors, improve survival rates and guarantee a better quality of life in vulnerable populations was emphasized Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 30-30 Volume: 1 Year: 2024 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto202330 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2024v1a49 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Mario Manuel Dopico Abreu Author-Name-First: Mario Manuel Author-Name-Last: Dopico Abreu Author-Name: Claudia María Díaz Lazo Author-Name-First: Claudia María Author-Name-Last: Díaz Lazo Author-Name: Alina Abreu Noroña Author-Name-First: Alina Author-Name-Last: Abreu Noroña Title: Oral leukoplakia on a middle rhomboidal glossitis. Presentation of a clinical case Abstract: Introduction: premalignant lesions may appear in the oral cavity, to which we must be alert, to facilitate the early diagnosis of oral cancer. Leukoplakia is a white, premalignant lesion that does not come off when scraped and cannot be classified as another disease. Objective: to present a case of homogeneous oral leukoplakia on a middle rhomboidal glossitis. Case presentation: a 49-year-old patient is presented, with a health history, who attended a dental consultation for periodic check-ups, in whom a whitish lesion was detected on the dorsal surface of the tongue. During the interrogation, the patient's oral habit was: cheilophagia and a history of burn trauma in the referred area. Once referred to the Maxillofacial Surgery service, the lesion was excised and biopsied, corresponding to homogeneous leukoplakia. Medial rhomboid glossitis and a history of burn trauma are assumed to be risk factors. Conclusions: the evolution was favorable for one year. Early diagnosis and consequent treatment were possible, contributing to the early detection and prevention of a cancerous lesion. This usually happens to dentists and especially to students, due to conditions attributable to the practice itself, such as: stress, movement of the patient, reduced space, among others. Through an accident with sharps it is possible to generate inoculation of pathogenic agents when exposed to contaminated biological substances, the main pathogenic agents identified in various studies are: HIV, Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C virus, among others. Biosafety protocols have been established to make dental practice safe for the operator and the patient, with the aim of minimising the possibility of cross-contamination. However, in the event of an incident involving sharp material, it is vitally important that the professional or student is well informed about the prophylaxis protocol to be followed in order to reduce the possibility of infection. This descriptive, cross-sectional research aims to investigate the knowledge of the students of the adult III clinics of the School of Dentistry of the Universidad Abierta Interamericana, Buenos Aires, Argentina 2024, regarding this important aspect of biosafety. For this purpose, a survey will be applied to verify the knowledge of preventive biosafety measures, knowledge of pathogenic agents and knowledge of the protocol for post-accident prophylaxis with sharp sharps. The present work was designed in order to provide a prevention protocol, early diagnosis and initial interventions to guarantee patient safety and minimize serious adverse events. For this purpose, a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory approach was used, carried out through bibliographic analysis of primary sources related to the topic. The results identified the inadequacies of the theoretical and practical training of dentists to address medical emergencies. In particular, the authors note that professionals in the field lack skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support. Additionally, not all offices have the equipment or medications necessary to provide first aid. For example, most dentists today do not have defibrillators or emergency medications in their offices. Under these conditions, it would be appropriate to propose a formal protocol that includes preventive measures, risk identification, continuous training and provision of resources. Therefore, it can be assumed that the regular use of the proposed programs, together with other measures for practical training, will improve the response capacity of professionals to emergencies and reduce the morbidity of incidents. Before concluding, it is necessary to point out the need for future research related to the evaluation of training programs and the requested economic analyzes to ensure that the proposed interventions are sustainable. These incidents, associated with sharps handling, frequently occurred due to factors such as inattention, stress and patient movement. Hollow needles were identified as the main cause of percutaneous injuries, accounting for 56% of cases. Globally, health care workers reported infection prevalence rates 3-5 times higher than the general population. Against this background, universal biosecurity measures were highlighted as key tools to reduce the risks of disease transmission. These included barrier techniques, proper handling of contaminated waste and accident response protocols, ranging from immediate wound cleaning to administration of post-exposure prophylaxis within 2 hours of the incident. Studies indicated that a high proportion of accidents went unreported and that more than half of the professionals were unaware of biosafety protocols. This picture highlighted the urgent need for continuing education and supervision in the clinical setting, especially for students, who faced greater challenges due to their inexperience and constant exposure. Compliance with biosafety standards was crucial to minimise risks and ensure a safe working environment. Although most research on this dysfunction has focused on adults, studies in children have been limited, especially in relation to non-carious lesions such as attrition, erosion and abfraction. In this growing population, significant long-term risks were identified, such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, ankylosis, and mandibular growth disturbances. The research presented a prospective longitudinal design with a rigorous protocol that included inclusion and exclusion criteria. This approach allowed the analysis of risk factors and early diagnosis. The methodologies employed included the use of Dr. Wilma A. Simoes' protocol, salivary pH measurement and microbiological studies to identify Candida spp. Also, treatment with Simoes Network (SN) appliances was implemented in patients with bruxism as well as in the control group. It was concluded that bruxism in children requires an interdisciplinary approach combining functional, microbiological and methodological analyses. In addition, it was shown that the adhesion of Candida spp to orthopedic appliances, especially C. albicans, underlines the need for rigorous hygiene protocols. The method of localization of elements in orthopedic devices, developed by Medizza and Simoes, stood out for optimizing diagnostic and therapeutic accuracy, improving clinical results in less time. Objective: to determine the behavior of deforming oral habits in children from 5 to 12 years of age, from the “Isidro de Armas” primary school in the Pinar del Río municipality. Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional research was carried out. The universe was 85 children, the sample determined from a non-random sampling, stratified by age, was made up of 65 children from the “Isidro de Armas” primary school in Pinar del Río, in the period september-november 2022. The results obtained were recorded in a database of the STATISTIC statistical system. From the inferential statistical point of view, the Chi square test in its contingency table variant and the hypothesis test were used to compare proportions corresponding to mutually exclusive categories. Results: the age group 9-10 years old predominated with 21 children (32, 3 %) and the female sex 39 children (60 %). There were no highly significant differences in relation to age groups, but there were differences in relation to sex. Finger sucking predominated in 20 children for 60, 6 %, followed by atypical swallowing in 18 (54, 5 %), mouth breathing in 14 (42, 4 %) and bottle sucking in 10 children. A significant predominance of children who have malocclusions due to practicing one or more deforming oral habits (55, 4 %) was found compared to the percentage of those who have malocclusions despite not having deforming oral habits (13 %). Conclusions: prevention plays a fundamental role in avoiding malocclusions, having a prophylactic objective. It is the most visible and the one that most aesthetically and functionally mutilates the patient, affecting them psychologically and having repercussions on their family and social environment. The objective was to describe the epidemiology of oral cancer. To develop this research, theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic and historical-logical analysis, in addition to the empirical method of documentary analysis. 20 bibliographies were selected. The behavior of this pathology varies between countries, influencing the way and lifestyle, which is one of the determinants of health, with smoking being the fundamental risk factor. It is more common in people over 60 years of age and in men in Cuba, where there is an organized program for the early detection of this cancer, and despite the promotion and prevention actions implemented, it continues to increase Journal: Odontologia (Montevideo) Pages: 17-17 Volume: 1 Year: 2023 DOI: 10.62486/agodonto202317 Handle: RePEc:dbk:odonto:2023v1a56 Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Alicia B. In children, this condition presented unique characteristics due to its high capacity for tissue regeneration and physiological adaptation, which generally caused asymptomatic pictures. Therefore, early diagnosis was based on the identification of occlusal imprints and their relationship with the stomatognathic system. Development: Several authors emphasized the importance of occlusal imprints as a diagnostic tool to differentiate between normal function and parafunction. It was pointed out that factors such as biotype, neuromuscular activity and individual adaptability influenced alterations of the masticatory system, including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. In addition, the relationship between bruxism and saliva quality was critical, as the latter, regulated by the autonomic nervous system, played a protective and facilitating role in balancing the oral microenvironment. The variable composition of saliva and its influence on microbial growth, including bacteria and fungi such as Candida spp. was highlighted. Conclusion: The diagnosis of bruxism required a multidisciplinary approach integrating knowledge of oral neurophysiology, jaw biomechanics and salivary composition. This approach allowed the development of more effective preventive and therapeutic strategies, ensuring a better quality of life for pediatric patients. The findings reinforced the need for a detailed analysis of the factors involved in this pathology in order to implement comprehensive solutions. In Latin America, the aging population and associated comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes, increased the probability of these events in dental offices. Anamnesis and professional preparation were essential to identify risks and prevent complications during dental procedures. Development:The management of medical emergencies in dentistry focused on two key aspects: prevention and intervention. Prevention included the collection of a detailed medical history and constant monitoring of vital signs. On the other hand, immediate intervention, based on protocols such as Basic Life Support (BLS), was essential to avoid serious complications. The most frequent emergencies included syncope, hypoglycemia, seizures and hypertensive crises. The studies underlined the importance of continuous training of dental personnel and the availability of emergency kits, especially in rural areas. Conclusion: Effective management of medical emergencies in dentistry depended on the theoretical and practical training of dentists, as well as the implementation of standardized protocols. The availability of adequate equipment and medications in dental offices significantly improved outcomes. This comprehensive approach ensured a safe environment, minimized risks and strengthened confidence in the dental care system.
